The Scouting Report
To get the right mix of students we target urban middle and high schools, coaches and community leaders from across Metro Atlanta. We search for young men demonstrating economic need and displaying great potential but requiring additional grooming to fulfill their true promise.
Like most training programs, we utilize feedback from our participant’s past coaches. What sets us apart is that we avoid questions about athletic prowess and ONLY focus on each player’s character, attitude and desire to be a part of a team.
While many students are attracted to L.E.A.D.'s programming in hopes of “going pro” like CJ, at the center of our process is an opportunity for these young men, who we call Leaders, to learn to be servant leaders, the title that gives C.J. the greatest pride. Therefore, each Leader will be introduced to the importance of civic engagement and will select social issues of concern and develop team based and individual strategies to positively impact those issues.
Leaders learn to lead by leading, and understand their value by being valued. From the selection process of MVP to the Legacy Journal to the awarding of civic stats, L.E.A.D., Inc. strives for a comprehensive program that’s effective at ensuring that each Leader is heard, supported and encouraged to understand the game of baseball and win in the game of life.
